Heart Screenings

• Target age 40-75
• If you are 30-39, meeting criteria (positive family history or other pertinent indicators) and have a physician script with specific reason for screen (diagnosis, family pertinent indicators) you may be a candidate for the CT calcium score.
• If you have had Bypass (Open Heart) Surgery, Stent Placement, Angio gram or have seen a cardiologist, we would NOT do the CT calcium score. Please call the Sanford Center for Health and Well-being (605) 312-2150 to discuss your options if needed.
• The CT calcium score is recommended once every 10 years, whether it is Sanford or Planet Heart (Avera), we could do everything but NOT the CT calcium score.
• Screen takes approximately 30 minutes

To prepare for screens please:

• If fasting: (no food, drink or gum) for 4 hours prior to your appointment.  Medications may be taken with a sip of water.
• Avoid caffeine and nicotine for 2 hours prior to the screen.
• Wear a short-sleeved button-down shirt to make your tests easier to obtain.
• Avoid pantyhose to make EKG easier to obtain.
• Avoid lotion to make EKG easier to obtain.
• Shoes and socks must be removed for the Ankle Brachial Index for vascular screen.
• Arrive 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to register.
